The Adept Armor Storm: Titanium is a 10x12" SAPI-cut, multi-curve titanium alloy hard armor plate rated as a standalone Level IIIA and Knife/Spike Level III ballistic and anti-stab plate. At 0.2" thick and 3.3 lbs, it delivers an exceptionally low profile for a hard plate. Paired with the Storm: Foundation UHMWPE composite plate, the combination upgrades to full RF2 protection against M855 and similar steel-core rifle ball threats. Available as a single plate at $350.00, with a lead time of in-stock and ships within 48 hours.
As a standalone plate, the Storm: Titanium stops .44 Magnum at 1,440 fps, .357 Magnum at 1,400 fps, and 9mm FMJ at 1,400 fps — meeting the NIJ 0101.06 Level IIIA handgun threat specification. Its monolithic titanium alloy construction also provides Knife-3 and Spike-3 anti-stab performance, rated at 64+ Joules for both edged weapon and spike threats. That combination of ballistic and stab resistance is not achievable with soft Level IIIA panels, making this plate genuinely in a different class from woven aramid or UHMWPE soft armor.
When paired with the Storm: Foundation plate, the combined system achieves RF2 — protection from steel-core rifle ball threats including 5.56x45mm M855 (SS109), 7.62x51mm M80, 7.62x39mm AK47 MSC, 5.56x45mm M193, 5.45x39mm AK74 MSC, and 7.62x54mmR LPS. The Foundation + Titanium stack constitutes a Level III+ body armor system, stopping both lead-core ball rounds and steel-penetrator threats that defeat standard Level III.

The Storm: Titanium is cut to the standard 10x12" SAPI geometry with a multi-curve profile, fitting the front and rear plate pockets of any carrier that accepts 10x12" SAPI plates. The multi-curve contour matches the natural torso shape, distributing the plate's 3.3 lb mass evenly and reducing pressure points during extended wear.
As a modular component of the Storm system, this plate is designed to pair directly with the Storm: Foundation UHMWPE composite plate. The Foundation provides the primary ballistic substrate; the Titanium strike-face snaps on in seconds to up-armor the system from Level IIIA standalone to full RF2. The Titanium can be removed just as quickly when the mission profile does not require rifle-rated coverage, reducing carried weight without swapping carriers.
The 10x12" SAPI cut fits any plate carrier with a standard 10x12" front or rear plate pocket. The 0.2" plate thickness places minimal depth demand on plate pockets, leaving room for a soft armor backer if desired. The multi-curve profile seats flush in contoured pockets without rocking. Level IIIA is an NIJ 0101.06 threat designation covering high-velocity handgun rounds. As a standalone plate, the Storm: Titanium stops .44 Magnum at 1,440 fps, .357 Magnum at 1,400 fps, and 9mm FMJ at 1,400 fps. Unlike soft IIIA panels, it also provides Knife-3 and Spike-3 anti-stab protection at 64+ Joules — something no woven fiber soft armor achieves.
No — as a standalone plate, the Storm: Titanium is rated to Level IIIA (handgun threats only). It does not stop rifle rounds on its own. Paired with the Storm: Foundation UHMWPE composite plate, the combined system achieves RF2 / Level III+, stopping M855, M80, 7.62x39mm MSC, and other steel-core rifle ball threats listed in the threat table above.
Level III+ is a vendor-specific designation indicating protection beyond the NIJ 0101.06 Level III standard — specifically, the ability to stop M855 green-tip and similar steel-core threats that Level III does not reliably defeat. RF2 is the equivalent designation in the NIJ 0101.07 framework. The Foundation + Titanium system meets both framings: it stops M855, M193, M80, 7.62x39mm MSC, 5.45x39mm MSC, and 7.62x54mmR LPS.
The Storm: Titanium is a removable titanium strike-face that pairs with the Storm: Foundation UHMWPE composite plate. The Foundation handles lead-core and mild-steel-core ball threats at Level III. Attaching the Titanium upgrades the system to RF2 in seconds, adding protection against M855 and steel-penetrator rounds. Remove the Titanium when rifle threats are not a concern and the Foundation reverts to a lighter standalone plate.
At 3.3 lbs in a 10x12" SAPI form factor, the Storm: Titanium is substantially lighter than comparable steel plates marketed as IIIA-rated. Titanium alloy exhibits a very high strength-to-weight ratio and is highly damage tolerant, which suits it well for light armor applications. It also adds Knife-3 and Spike-3 anti-stab coverage that steel plates do not inherently provide through NIJ stab rating.
The Storm: Titanium cannot be shipped to New York or Connecticut due to state body armor restrictions. It is subject to US export regulations. Under 18 U.S.C. § 931, anyone with a federal felony conviction for a crime of violence is prohibited from purchasing or possessing body armor.
