Dutoit, who has conducted Stravinsky's works at a pivotal point in his career, has conducted two of Stravinsky's symphonies for Swiss Romande at a time when his recordings for Decca were becoming more active. Although his symphonies are often overshadowed by his gorgeous ballet music, the symphony in C, whose uniqueness is clearly stamped in the symphonic form, and the three-movement symphony with its diverse rhythmic dynamism and energy are impressive, each is aptly presented.
