The series of Bruckner symphonies, the milestones of the German Romantic period, has been the repertoire of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra since its first principal conductor, Eugen Jochum. The Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra has made numerous recordings of these works, but the four masters selected for this box set are Lorin Maazel, Mariss Jansons, Bernard Haitink, and Herbert Blomstedt. The first and second symphonies were performed by Maazel. His unique interpretation reveals the classical influence in the early symphonies. Nos. 3, 4, 7, and 8 are performed by Jansons. The score is carefully read and interpreted in his own unique way. The release of Nos. 3 and 4 is the first time they have been made available to the general public, making them a coveted item for fans of Bruckner.
