Additional Details: La Chambre Verte (The Green Room, 1978), directed by and starring François Truffaut, is a somber meditation on grief, memory, and mortality. Truffaut plays Julien Davenne, a reclusive journalist in post-World War I France, obsessed with honoring the dead, particularly his late wife. After a fire destroys his personal shrine to her, he converts a chapel into a space devoted to preserving the memory of all his loved ones who have passed away. Julien's obsession isolates him from the living, but his relationship with Cecilia (Nathalie Baye), a compassionate young woman intrigued by his devotion, offers a glimmer of human connection. However, Julien remains consumed by his fixation on death. With its austere visuals and melancholic tone, the film is one of Truffaut's most personal works, reflecting on loss and the struggle to move on. Though understated, it’s now regarded as a haunting and intellectually profound exploration of mortality.
