Michael Waldron, London Choral Symphony
Description:
During the Christian Holy Week (Passion Week), many albums of serene music are released that encourage people to introspect and meditate. This album from the UK, the kingdom of choral music, also evokes introspection and healing, including Elgar's "Eternal Light. Of particular note is the 50-plus-minute epic "Sword in the Soul," which was found by the album's conductor, Michael Waldron, in a bundle of sheet music that had been left in a cupboard on one of the organ floors at Trinity College. Initially, the scores were in disarray and in different orders, but they resonated with Waldron, who was a fan of Francis Greer's work, and he took the time to research and reorganize them into a recording. The music is magnificent, with narration and instrumental accompaniment to a text that meditates on the meaning and significance of the crucifixion of Christ on the occasion of the Holy Cross.
