Description:
The greatest work by Texas-born SSW Larry Gross, well-known in the Masterpieces Guidebook, is finally available on CD (original release: 1971). In late 1970, Larry Gross released his first album, "The Last of the Roots," with Hollywood-based Daybreak Records, a subsidiary of RCA. In late 1970, he signed a contract with Daybreak Records, an RCA subsidiary based in Hollywood. In the same year, he released his second album, "Wheat Rise Row". The album was a hit, but the singer's voice was not, and the album was not a hit at all. Although the album was not a hit, it is a sensitive masterpiece that has been secretly loved by fans of singer-songwriters. Produced by the Wilder Brothers, an L.A.-based producer team consisting of three brothers who also record with the Lettermen-style soft chorus group Sounds of Sunshine. All but four of the 12 songs on this album are Gross originals. Both covers, Bob Dylan's [5] and Jerry Jeff Walker's [9], are beautifully done with bittersweet sentimentality. The mellow country flavor, featuring clarinet and banjo, has none of the typical roots-rock stink, which is also a big part of its charm. After releasing another Daybreak album, the Wilder Brothers-produced "Crescentville" (1972), the band moved to Warner Brothers in 1976. There, the group had a hit with the novelty song "Junk Food Junkie" (Billboard #9), which catapulted the group into the limelight.
