The Caliber Armor AR550 Quick Response Package pairs two 10x12 multi-curve AR550 steel body armor plates with a Condor Sentry plate carrier, delivering Level III+ protection in a ready-to-wear configuration. The plates are NIJ Listed under Standard 0101.06 at Level III and rated against special threats including M855. An ergonomic multi-curve design ships at no additional cost, and buyers choose between PolyShield anti-spall coating or standard coating at checkout. Cut options include Shooters Cut, SAPI style, or one of each. The carrier adjusts from a 32-inch to 54-inch waist and ships in Black, Coyote Brown, OD Green, or Scorpion OCP.
AR550 is a high-hardness steel alloy engineered to defeat multiple projectile impacts across the plate face. These plates are rated and certified to meet or exceed NIJ Standard 0101.06 at Level III and special threats, including M855 (SS109) green-tip rounds. The multi-curve geometry is formed in a single-step press rather than through multiple sequential bends, which preserves steel grain uniformity and produces a consistent ballistic surface across the plate.
Steel armor is designed to withstand repeated hits. Unlike ceramic plates, which typically require replacement after a single significant impact, AR550 steel maintains structural integrity across multiple rounds. The trade-off is higher weight relative to ceramic and UHMWPE alternatives — the two-plate PolyShield set ships at 18 lbs total, and the standard-coating set at 16 lbs total.
Steel plates generate spall — fragments of bullet and jacket material — on impact. PolyShield is Caliber Armor's anti-spall coating applied to the strike face. PolyShield significantly reduces fragmentation risks, containing and redirecting spall rather than allowing it to radiate toward the face, neck, and extremities. Buyers prioritizing spall mitigation should select the PolyShield option at checkout; the 1-lb weight difference (18 lbs vs. 16 lbs for the two-plate set) reflects the coating mass.
Both plates in this package measure 10x12 inches and ship in a multi-curve profile. At checkout, buyers select Shooters Cut, SAPI style, or a mixed set (one of each). The multi-curve contour fits the natural thoracic curve of most torsos without requiring a separate upsell.
The Condor Sentry carrier bundled in this package accepts 10x12 plates and fits either cut. For buyers who already own a compatible 10x12 carrier, contact us — we can discuss plate-only purchase options.
The Condor Sentry included in this package is a full-featured tactical carrier with a breathable 3D mesh liner and quick-release buckles for rapid doffing. Shoulder straps are fully adjustable, and removable anti-slip shoulder pads attach via hook-and-loop guides. A built-in emergency drag handle runs along the rear collar. MOLLE webbing across the front panel and cummerbund accepts standard pouches and accessories. The carrier adjusts from a 32-inch to 54-inch waist, covering most adult torso sizes without separate size selection. The Condor Sentry is imported.
The Condor Sentry adjusts from 32 to 54 inches at the waist, fitting most adult body types without size-specific ordering. Shoulder straps and anti-slip pads provide additional vertical fit adjustment. The 10x12 plate pocket accepts both Shooters Cut and SAPI style plates included in this package.
Buyers who want to run these plates in a different carrier should verify their carrier accepts 10x12 multi-curve plates. Contact us if you have fitment questions before ordering.
Level III is the NIJ Standard 0101.06 certification designation — these plates are NIJ Listed at that level, meaning they passed independent third-party testing against the six Level III threat rounds. Level III+ is a special threat designation indicating the plates are also rated against higher-velocity threats and M855 green-tip rounds that fall outside the standard Level III test protocol. Both designations apply to these AR550 plates.
These plates are rated to defeat Level III threats per NIJ Standard 0101.06 and special threats including M855. AR550 steel is designed to withstand multiple projectile impacts across the plate face. They are not rated against Level IV armor-piercing threats such as M2 AP.
PolyShield is an anti-spall coating applied to the strike face of the steel plate. Steel plates fragment bullet jackets on impact, and those fragments — called spall — can travel upward toward the face and neck. PolyShield significantly reduces fragmentation risks. The coating adds approximately 1 lb to the two-plate set (18 lbs with PolyShield vs. 16 lbs with standard coating). For most buyers, the spall mitigation benefit outweighs the added weight.
Shooters Cut features a deeper upper corner relief that improves shoulder and arm mobility for rifle shouldering. SAPI (Small Arms Protective Insert) style follows the military SAPI plate geometry with a more squared upper corner. Both are 10x12 inches. The mixed option lets you run Shooters Cut in one pocket and SAPI in the other based on your preference or carrier compatibility.
The two AR550 plates weigh 18 lbs with PolyShield coating or 16 lbs with standard coating. That weight does not include the Condor Sentry carrier. Steel plates weigh more than ceramic and UHMWPE alternatives at the same size. Buyers prioritizing reduced carry weight should consider ceramic or polyethylene plate options.
