Debussy (1862-1918)
Description:
An album with a single piano trio composition that explores the possibilities of a piano trio with enough color to rival the palette of an orchestra. It couples Ravel's Trio, the pinnacle of the genre, with a piano trio version of Debussy's "The Sea" and a work by Belgian composer Fritz Serres. Color and nuance comparable to that of the orchestra are pursued throughout, echoing the vivid painting by Paul Klee that adorns the jacket. Piano and strings are instruments of contrasting sonorities, and the expression of their respective colors leads to the eloquence of the music. In this respect, Ravel's writing style is wonderful, almost orchestral in sound. Debussy's "The Sea" is an arrangement of the original work that brilliantly "condenses" the brilliant expressiveness of the original into a small piece of music. The descriptive nature of the music remains intact. Fritz Celis' work combines delicate colors and strong rhythms, and shows a unique driving force. King International
