The sound on Idol is very similar to technical thrash metal, though maybe with more progressive bent and a minuscule dose of steroids. There's a nice mix of more open, bouncy riffs (where each guitar strum seems to happen irrespective of the previous one) and sweeping fills that suddenly come in and plug any possible gaps in the guitars. That's the basic play between progressive metal and technical trash that embodies the album. The songs are well put together. They're not sped along, but they're not drawn out and they don't get caught on one riff or passage for too long.
