Third ECM release in 2017 by Cuban-born, NY-based pianist. This year he was named a Rising Star in the piano category by Downbeat magazine! The work is about the music of his Cuban roots and speaks of trans-culture, tradition, and the complex tapestry (sacred, secular, and ritualistic) of Cuban music. The dynamism of the music, played by a total of 10 musicians (strings, woodwinds, percussion, etc.), symbolizes a multicultural exchange, with responsive piano and the vocals and percussion of Román Díaz, an integral part of the Afro-Cuban musical history, forming the heart of this work.
