Description:
This is the 18th new album by veteran New Orleans folk-blues man Chris Smither, who has been called "one of the best singer-songwriters in the world. This album is a sequel to "Still On The Levee (2012)," a best-of album celebrating his 50th anniversary in music, in which he recorded new material from the past, and in 2013 he re-imagined and re-recorded many of the classic songs that could not be included on that album. Produced by David Goodrich, a close friend and multi-instrumentalist, and featuring guest appearances by the late Alan Toussaint! Chris Smither was born in Florida in 1944 and grew up in New Orleans. He began playing music in high school, and after graduation, he gravitated toward folk and blues after listening to Lightnin' Hopkins and Mississippi John Hurt. He studied with guitar virtuoso Eric Von Schmidt and, on his advice, moved to Cambridge, near Boston. Later, he was featured in various magazines and media and appeared at big festivals, releasing his first masterpiece, "I'm A Stranger Too!" in 1970 and "Don't It Drag On" in 1971.As a composer, he became famous when Bonnie Raitt featured him on songs such as "Love You Like a Man. After a 12-year hiatus due to alcoholism, he returned in 1984 with "It Ain't Easy," and since entering his 90s, he has released consistently, including "Handed Dollar Valentine" in 2012 and "Call Me Lucky" in 2018, and has been respected by many young artists. In 2014, he released a self-covered album, Still On The Levee.
