London; Stanford, 2nd edition. Scale 1:760,320 (1 inch equals 12 miles). Hand coloured lithograph in four quarters, each 80 x 69cm, dissected and mounted on linen folding to 20 x 11.5cm with marbled paper covers and paste-down location map on front. All contained within a green embossed leather case with gilt coat of arms of Prince Albert on front and gilt lettering on spine, as if a book. Colouring is immaculate, colours are bright. Nine horizontal sections, inset map for Orkney and Shetland Isles. Adjacent French area also coloured. Faint transfer of title and cartouche visible in sea area of northwest quadrant. Leather case is very worn but intact. The four maps are in very good to near fine condition.

On the underside of the closing flap of the slip case, is the initial owner’s name in gilt, John Willet (1815-1891) a Scottish civil engineer of Aberdeen.
