An African project work released in 1999 with Hank Jones and Sheikh Tidian Seck & the Mandinka is now available on 180g heavy vinyl LP. This work created a genuine enthusiasm for Mandingo music and inspired many Western musicians to go to Mali to explore the origins of this music. The reunion of Hank Jones (an African-American musician and one of the most talented pianists of his generation) and Cheick-Tidian Seck (a Malian arranger, bandleader, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist best known for his work with the The resulting album is a symbiosis of the spirit and heart of the two genres. Despite the passage of time and the fluctuations of history, the two genres have inherited the eternal gesture of the Mandingo plainsong, the source of gospel music, and through the virtuosity of the assembled musicians, have continually adapted to the most contemporary sounds.
