Ametrine forms when Amethyst and Citrine grow together in the same quartz crystal, a phenomenon that occurs naturally only under very specific geological conditions. The colour zoning is caused by variations in temperature during the crystal's formation, with iron oxidising differently across the stone to produce both purple and golden hues simultaneously. Commercially mined natural Ametrine comes almost exclusively from the Anahi Mine in the Bolivian rainforest, making it one of the rarest and most geographically specific gemstones in the world.
