Description:
Italy's hottest countertenor, Raffaele Pe! Handel's early masterpiece "Aci, galatea e polifemo". Revival of the "Senesino version" adapted for the famous castrato Senesino! Conducted by Luca Guglielmi! Raffaele Peh, a dashing newcomer to the world of Italian old music, has performed with such masters of old music as John Eliot Gardiner, William Christie, Jordi Savall, Alessandro De Marchi, Antonio Florio, and many others, and is one of the most acclaimed countertenors in Italy today! One of the most acclaimed countertenors, he led the ensemble La Lilla di Orfeo (Orfeo's Lyre), which he founded and serves as artistic director in 2014, and his second Glossa recording is a "Senesino version" of Handel's early masterpiece Ach, Galatea e Polifemo! The young Handel wrote the serenata "Aci, Galatea e Polifemo" for the wedding of the Duke of Alvito during his stay in Naples in 1708, and after its premiere in Naples in 1708, there were several revisions, including a three-act version in 1732 and a two-act version in 1739. version is the version believed to have been written for Senesino (Francesco Bernardi), a famous London castrato singer who played the leading roles in many of Handel's works.Based on a manuscript in the British Library in London, it was reconstructed and revised by Raffaele Pe, Fabrizio Longo, and Luca Guglielmi for its modern premiere in 2020, with the achi transposed to alto (countertenor), the galatea to soprano, and the polyfemo parts mostly rewritten. The polyphemo part has also been mostly rewritten and includes a long accompanied recitative and a new aria. The instrumentation also differs slightly from the Neapolitan version, with more woodwinds instead of trumpets. The title role is sung by Raffaele Pé, and the high quality singing of Giuseppina Bridelli, a mezzo from Piacenza who is in particular demand in the Baroque repertoire, and Andrea Mastroni, an internationally renowned bass who has recorded some of Handel's rarest arias, are also noteworthy. The high quality singing of Andrea Mastroni is also noteworthy. Another important point is that Luca Guglielmi, a versatile historical keyboard expert, is in charge of conducting (& keyboard instruments) in this production. Tokyo M-Plus
