These authentic British Railways style platform lights are fitted with a dense arrangement of warm white LEDs to accurately mimic these traditional fluorescent tube lit fixtures that were widely used throughout the rail network from the 1950s to the 1990s, and seen at stations including Birmingham New Street, Peterborough, Watford, Crewe, and Banbury.

Part of our ModelSigns Premium range, these platform lights feature exclusive new tooling that precisely captures the distinctive look of these iconic fixtures. Based on photographs and original drawings, these lights are a a true scale representation.

Ready for 12v operation - As with all ModelSigns Premium lights, these British Railways Platform fixtures are ready to connect straight to a 12v supply with a resistor already in place, no additional soldering required*! For those wanting to use a different operating voltage, simply snip the resistor from the leads and replace with one suitable for your supply voltage.

Prototypically accurate - Our exclusive new mouldings are based on extensive research of the actual British Railways standard platform lighting fixtures, featuring the characteristic rectangular light enclosure that could be found either suspended or column mounted and commonly seen throughout the network from the 1950s onward.

Diffused enclosures - Just like the prototypes, our models feature properly scaled diffused enclosures that replicate the authentic appearance of real station lighting. The distinctive slim profile of the light housing with its characteristic grey top cap has been faithfully reproduced, looking just as realistic during daylight hours as when illuminated.

Authentic illumination - We've carefully matched the colour temperature to accurately reproduce the glow and look of the fluorescent tubes used in the prototype platform lights, creating the perfect ambiance for your station scene. The heads feature a dense arrangement of LEDs that accurately replicates the slightly "rippled" look given off by fluorescent tubes of the time, especially when they were situated out on a cold station platform.

Highly detailed - The post-mounted version of this light comes assembled and painted along with an optional dummy speaker module and an adjustable base. This base is a brand new moulding accurately recreating the hinged style tubes used on station platforms. The hanging/ceiling variant comes with brass tubes (supplied unpainted) that can be used to either provide a rigid way to hang your lights from a higher station canopy or as cable trunking for ceiling mounted lights. Both styles include the proper grey enclosure lid with a diffused white light housing below.

Space for a station name decal - For the ultimate in authenticity, we have partnered with Railtec Transfers who can produce custom transfers designed specifically for these lights. More details will be available shortly, sign up to our newsletter below.

POSCA Paint Pen Add-on -

We offer an add-on of a Grey POSCA paint pen with our Hanging/Ceiling lights. This is perfect way of quickly and easily painting the brass tubes which act as either the means of hanging the light from your platform canopies or as cable trunking when mounting them directly to the ceiling of a building/platform shelter. These are supplied unpainted so they can be press-fit into the housing of the light depending on your preferred mounting option. (POSCA Safety data sheet)

These fixtures use high-quality SMD LEDs, offering superior performance compared to older grain of wheat style bulbs. The LEDs provide consistent illumination that perfectly mimics traditional fluorescent tube lighting for ultra-realistic appearance.

Following the success of our previous ModelSigns Premium lighting ranges, we've created something truly special with our British Railways Platform Lighting series. These distinctive fluorescent light fixtures were a common sight throughout the network from the 50s.

Our exclusive new mouldings capture the quintessential British Railways platform lighting styles seen in both covered and open platform areas. Whether illuminating your mainline terminus, rural halt, or depot area, these lights add that perfect finishing touch of authenticity to any British railway scene from the 1950s through the 60s and into the early 70s (or on heritage railways).
