A complete and matched tureen service from Creil et Montereau, the celebrated French faience manufactory active from the early 19th century. The set comprises the tureen, its lid, and a matching oval plate stand - a combination that is increasingly difficult to find intact.

The decoration is printed in black transfer with a topographical scene of classical ruins - columns, arches, figures in the landscape - characteristic of the Neoclassical taste that Creil et Montereau perfected in the first decades of the 19th century. The creamware body has the warm ivory tone typical of the factory, distinct from the cooler white of later industrial pieces.
