Pinus contorta var contorta specA unique, irregularly twisting conifer with contorted branches and rugged character, used as a specimen plant. It prefers full sun and well drained soils, tolerating poor, sandy, or rocky conditions once established. The needles remain dark green throughout the winter. The shaggy brick red bark adds interest and dimension to the landscape. Provides food and shelter for seed eating birds and small mammals.
