Isao Tomita, composer and synthesizer artist who passed away on May 5, 2016, became the first Japanese composer to be nominated for a Grammy Award for his synthesizer composition "Moonlight" in 1974, and since then his albums have been unprecedented hits worldwide, making him a household name. Isao Tomita has since composed numerous NHK historical dramas and film scores, and in recent years has collaborated with the virtual singer Hatsune Miku to produce innovative works such as "Ihatov Symphony" and "Dr. Coppelius. On December 1, 1954, while still a senior in the Faculty of Letters at Keio University, Tomita was hired as the exclusive composer for Nippon Columbia, where he wrote and arranged a wide range of music in the arts and sciences, Japanese music, and Western music departments. Many of his past works lead to the roots of Tomita's later sound. This album reveals the origin of Isao Tomita's creativity with a selection of his early works and his treasured synthesizer recordings from the 1970s.
