This remarkable bronze antoninianus features the radiate bust of Emperor Probus (AD 276–282), one of the last emperors of the Crisis of the Third Century. The obverse bears the inscription “IMP C PROBVS P F AVG” and displays Probus in detailed military attire, a symbol of his strong leadership and military success.
On the reverse, the coin presents a dynamic depiction of Sol Invictus, the Unconquered Sun, riding a galloping quadriga — a chariot drawn by four horses. This powerful image reflects the emperor’s divine protection and the enduring strength of Rome. Traces of original green patina add to its historical charm.
A fine collectible for enthusiasts of Roman imperial history and ancient iconography.
