Phineas Newborn Jr.
Description:
Phineas Newborn Jr's debut album was released on Contemporary Record in 1962. Recorded by legendary engineers Howard Holzer and Roy Dunant, the album features Paul Chambers (bass), Philly Joe Jones (drums), Sam Jones (bass), and Lewis Hayes (drums). Phineas Newborn received praise and encouragement from Count Basie, John Hammond, and Ralph J. Gleason in the mid-1950s, whose articulation, virtuosity, and creativity were in a class comparable to Art Tatum and Oscar Peterson. He chose two different rhythm sections from each of the Miles Davis and Cannonball Adderley combos to showcase all of his talents. The works of Gillespie, Parker, Rollins, Clifford Brown, and especially Billy Strayhorn are featured, interpreting their "Lush Life" with rare and poignant beauty.【パーソネル】Phineas Newborn Jr. (p) Paul Chambers, Sam Jones (b) Philly Joe Jones, Louis Hayes (ds)
