Blue Note founder Alfred Lion considered pianist Herbie Nichols to be as original and important a composer as Thelonious Monk. Although little known at the time, in recent years, the 1955 recordings of "The Third World," "2300 Skidoo," and "Step Tempest" on "The Prophetic Herbie Nichols, Vol. 1" and "Vol. 2" The unique songs became known for being produced with Al McKibbon on bass and Art Blakey on drums The two 10" LPs were combined into one 12" LP with the jacket of "Vol. 1" on the front, the jacket of "Vol. 2" on the back, and Francis Wolfe's The LPs are housed in a gatefold jacket with photos and liner notes by Francis Wolff inside.
