For sale here is a very interesting and possibly unique set of custom ordered Payne rods made before WWII -- a Model 200 and a Model 202. Both rods are eight feet three-piece rods with an extra tip. The rods lack a retailer stamp on the reel seat or butt cap (A&F, VL&A, Clapp & Treat, etc), which means the rods came straight from the Payne shop. 

The Model 200 has classic browntone cane with chestnut silks and goldenrod tipping. Maroon and goldenrod at the male ferrules. Blued guides and ferrules. Agate stripping guide. Ring hook-keeper. Blued nickel silver winding check. Western-style grip in wonderful condition with light soiling, no chips or hook gouges. Bright aluminum up-locking reel seat with varnished spanish cedar spacer. Ferrule sizes 9/64 and 14/64 (male slide measurement) with an excellent fit. The snake guide on the butt section nearest the female ferrule has become detached. The guide and the detached silks will be included in a plastic bag accompanying the sale. The rod weighs 4.60 oz. The action is on the medium side of medium fast. Feels best with a 5 line.

The Model 202 has the same classic browntone cane and wrap color scheme. Curiously, the mid section male ferrule does not have the maroon tipping, as the tip males do. Blued hardware throughout. Clear agate tip-tops and stripping guide. The hook-keeper appears to be a rather petite tip-top, adding to the mystery of these rods. This could have been a repair done at some point, though it was done quite skillfully as the thread matches the others exactly. Western-style grip with only light soiling. Cap and ring reel seat over a beautiful spanish cedar spacer. Ferrule sizes 10/64 and 16/64. The fit is excellent. The rod weighs 4.60 oz. The action is on the faster side of medium-fast.

The rods share an aluminum tube and a custom made bag with six individual compartments.
