Bakersfield's Bees brought Class D California State League baseball to the Central Valley starting in 1929. Small town minor league clubs like these were the soul of their communities during the Depression years. Bakersfield didn't just watch baseball, they lived it, filling wooden bleachers on summer nights when there was precious little else to celebrate.
