Toucans, which belong to the woodpecker family, are colourful, very playful and quite noisy. They live in the treetops of the primeval forests of Central and South America. Despite their colourful plumage, they are well camouflaged. They are not good flyers, but move very elegantly in the treetops. Their huge beaks serve as air conditioning. A toucan pair remains faithful to each other for life. Toucan pairs breed in natural tree cavities and raise 3 to 4 young together, the first of which leave the breeding cavity after 6 to 9 weeks.
