This boy was among the many photographs that I took while on a mission trip in Ghana in 2007. Going through the photographs after my return, his expression captured my attention because it seemed to me to reflect everything that I observed about Africa while there including what Africa has endured for centuries of colonialism and  what she can hope for. The symbolic crowns in the image represent Africa past and future.
