I am pretty certain this sweet, smiling guy is a Native American Pueblo kachina doll from the Southwest US, made in the 1940s or 50s for the tourist market I'd think. Kachinas dolls were traditionally made by Pueblo men, and used to teach children the identities of many various kachinas (spirits) observed by the people that Pueblo, with the identity of the particularly spirit described less through the form of the body but rather through the applied color and additional decoration (feathers, fabric, etc.) 

I believe he may once have had a plug nose and definitely attached pieces on the side of his head, but otherwise is in great shape, with some dryness to the wood and a little wear to the paint, as there should be. He stands on his own. 7 1/2" t x 1 3/8" w x 1" d.
