Raccoon Tetra (Hyphessobrycon procyon) is named for its distinctive facial markings — a dark stripe through the eye on a pale body suggests the masked appearance of a raccoon. Procyon is in fact the genus name for the raccoon. An attractively patterned Hyphessobrycon from Colombia.
Feeding & Care Tip: Sera Vipan Tropical Flakes and Hikari Micro Pellets make excellent daily staples. Supplement 2–3× per week with Hikari Frozen or Freeze-Dried Bloodworms, Hikari Frozen or Freeze-Dried Baby Brine Shrimp, or Hikari Vibra Bites. Feed small amounts 2–3 times daily.
Native to Colombia — rivers of the Orinoco drainage. Soft to moderately soft water preferred.
Keep in groups of at least 8. The raccoon-mask eye stripe is most vivid in well-conditioned fish. Peaceful community tetra.
