The debut self titled album from Bakersfield CA's The Pine was recorded in 2001, a time when the word “emo” was transforming into something different than what it had meant to previous generations, alienating people who were drawn to the scene for its DIY roots and punk ethics. Instead, the band looked to the past and drew sonic influences from bands like The Hated and Evergreen, released records with their friends on small labels, and hit the road on their own, touring the United States and Europe multiple times during their seven-year stint as a band.
