Chevron beads are a distinctive type of bead invented in the late 1400s by Maria Valovier of Murano Island, Italy. While Venetian bead techniques are adaptations of ancient methods, the chevron technique is unique to Venice. These beads, which can have up to 10 layers, are typically blue, although red, green, and black varieties are rarer. The term "chevron" means "zigzag" and these beads are also known as star beads or rosetta beads. Later, chevron beads were also produced in the Netherlands.
