Dzi Beads are ancient beads passed down through Tibetan culture. Similar to etched carnelian, these beads feature designs created by firing natural dyes onto agate. It is believed that Dzi Beads were crafted between the 1st and 6th centuries AD. However, the exact compositions of the dyes used remain partially unknown, adding to the beads' mystery. While primarily found in Tibet, they are also discovered in regions like Bhutan and Ladakh in the Himalayas. Each pattern, especially the "eye" motif, holds different meanings, with well-preserved pieces being highly coveted. In Tibet, Dzi Beads are considered talismans of wealth and prosperity, cherished and handed down through generations as valuable adornments. Recently, their popularity has surged in China, where they are known as "Tianzhu" and many replicas are produced using similar techniques. Nevertheless, ancient Dzi Beads remain exceptionally rare and valuable.
