Millefiori, meaning "thousand flowers" in Italian, refers to the intricate and colorful decorative glass that Venice developed as a countermeasure to the economic impact following the collapse of exclusive trade with the East and the market dominance of Bohemian glass in Europe. Venetian traders, who were already engaged in bead trade with Africa, crafted cylindrical beads from this decorative glass, which were then transported to Africa as trade beads. In Africa, these beads are known as "Chachasso."
