Sally Campbell Pirie is Professor of Child and Family Studies at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. As an anthropologist of childhood and award-winning visual artist, her comics-based ethnographic research focuses on the study of childhood, gender, and schooling, especially among gender diverse children. A graduate of Grinnell College and the University of Colorado at Boulder, Sally was born in Japan and attended Punahou School in Honolulu, Hawaii.
