Invented in the late 1400s by Maria Varoveer of Murano, Italy, the chevron bead technique is a unique Venetian bead-making method. While Venetian bead styles often adapt ancient techniques, the chevron bead technique is exclusively Venetian. Chevron beads can have up to ten layers, with blue being the most common color. Red, green, and black chevron beads are considered rare. The name "chevron" refers to its zigzag pattern. These beads are also known as star beads or rosetta beads. The technique later spread to the Netherlands.
