Antique Ladies Jacket Edwardian 1900s 1910s Gray Silk Black Coiled Trim

Very rare piece of historic costume, this silk jacket has unusual and sumptuous detailing making it a remarkably rich specimen of a high end ladies garment of the time. The thick, almost taffeta like silk that makes up the body is a blend of gray and beige with a very subtle grid. Collarless, with the voluminous long sleeves that hallmark the era, it closes down the center with hidden hooks. The waistband closes with hooks as well, hugging the body. Note the pleating at the chest front, contrasting nicely with the thickly braided, black coil design at front side and upper back. The sleeves have elaborate cuffs in alternating bands of thin silk, embroidered pattern, trimmed at top and bottom with ruffled, greenish gray silk. Interior is lined in peach silk.

Condition: very good and wearable as is, but with some flaws that give away its age. All the hooks are there and surprisingly, the lining is very sturdy and intact!

Lining at the nape needs to be reattached
Green silk trim around the nape and along the central opening has wear and tear
Center of waist shows tearing the green silk
Top right collarbone and several sections at the back have small surface tears
The sleeves show tearing at the silk panels
