Chevron beads were invented in the late 1400s by Maria Valoveer of Murano Island, Italy. While Venetian bead-making techniques often draw from ancient methods, the Chevron technique is unique to Venice. Chevron beads can have up to 10 layers, with blue being the most common color. Red, green, and black Chevrons are rare and highly sought after. The technique later spread to the Netherlands. The term "Chevron" means "V-shaped" and these beads are also known as star beads or rosetta beads.
