This 70s day dress is a masterpiece of deceptively simple elegance. It has a sculptural quality with an hourglass shape, created by lightly gathered inset panels at hip level that seem inspired by 18 century panniers. The rest of the dress is designed like a classic shift, with jewel neckline and long sleeves. Channel-type seaming adds visual interest, as does the curved notch at the base of the sleeves.

FABRIC/COLORS: The fabric is a medium to heavy weight wool crepe in dark brown. A fiber burn test suggests there might be a small amount of a synthetic blended in. The dress is fully lined in brown acetate-type fabric.

TAGS: Oscar de la Renta, made in USA. It has the ILGWU label that was used from 1974 to 1995.

CLOSURES: A long nylon zipper down the back.
