The theme of Volume 15 of commmons: schola, a series of complete music books under the general supervision of Ryuichi Sakamoto, is "Music of the 20th century II - 1945 to present. What is "contemporary music"? Although we may have a vague idea of what "contemporary music" is, its true appeal is not well known. In this latest volume of schola, the London-based composer Dai Fujikura, who has been active internationally, has been invited as a co-selector to introduce music written after 1945, following the end of World War II. The volume also features a roundtable discussion with a splendid cast of regulars, including Junichi Konuma, Akira Asada, and Akio Okada, as well as extensive commentary by experts in various fields.
