Description:
The Hungarian conductor Antal Dorati is closely associated with 20th century music from Haydn and Mozart, Berg to Bartók and Messiaen, but he showed a unique talent for performing the music of the early Romantic period in particular. In this recording of Mendelssohn and Schumann, only the "Italian" Symphony in Minneapolis is in mono. Dorati's playing is clean and flowing within the sound world of Mendelssohn and Schumann. The Violin Concerto is performed with Henrik Schelling, a partner with whom Dorati shares a common understanding of the piece. 2 CD set. Universal Music/IMS
